The first time I was elected as a prefect was in the 8th grade. I was stunned when my name was announced. My parents and I were so proud of me. But with this victory came many responsibilities.

Prefects were like assistants to the teachers. I had to look after the dormitory or class when a teacher was absent. I had to make sure the dormitories were clean at all times, especially when students left the dormitory. And then, lock the dormitory and give the key to our dorm parent. I also organised events held in the school. I had to supervise the students and make sure that everyone walked in a line, everyone followed the uniform code, report if any misbehaviour was observed, etc.

I did have my highs and lows. There were times when I got yelled at by the teacher even when it was not my fault. I was held responsible for the mistakes that I did not make. In other words, prefects were an example of good character for the other students of the school. I was happy with the position and felt confident about it.
